Selection

Selection

KernelCAD provides several methods for selection of objects. Also, most of the types of sections allow selection of mesh elements: simplexes and vertices

See also: Pick sample

Object Selection

There are multiple ways to select objects:

Selection via the current object

This method allows selection of an object with a single click. When the component is in Modify mode click on an object raises CurrentObjectChanged event, which informs the application about the selected object

There are several options for this type of selection: By default the algorithm used involves graphic system. Some rare video adaptor drivers do not support this functionality, which causes wrong objects to be detected as selected. To handle this problem there is more reliable purely geometric algorithm. To enable it set the SelectionGeometricOnly context property to true

The above pure geometric algorithm can be slow for large models, In this scase less precise, but faster approximamation can be used. To enable it set the SelectionFastApproximation context property to true. With this option it is recommended to click objects (or empty space) at least 7 pixels away from the visible edge of the object

Selection via IPick interface

This method is fully programmatic. Methods of IPick can be called directly without any human interaction

Selection via the Selection Event

This method allows selection of multiple objects. Details

Mesh Element selection

Selection of simplexes and vertices can be handled by using the Selection Event in response to user issuing an Advanced > Edit > Select > (Vertices or Simplexes) command via the context menu. The actual selection is made via left-click and drag to draw a selection rectangle

Selection of faces, edges or vertices of BRep sections

Browsing of internal structure of BRep STEP-compliant parametric objects is possible programmatically. See the Shape Explorer sample. Please contact us to request interactive selection of this kind of elements
