KernelCAD Light

Post by Alfio_Tr »

Hi
Normally a light edition is free. Why it is the opposite with KernelCAD?

Is KernelCAD Light going to be supported going forward?

Thank You
Alfio

Hi Alfio
There are several reasons. One of them is that it costs more to maintain two editions of the software. We also would like to encourage our partners to upgrade to v4.*

KC 4 being free does not mean that it is worse in any sense or has less value. We have simply changed the business model.

KC 4 is the main stream for development. Whether the KC Light will be developed has not been decided yet. It will be clearer after production release of v4.3. We are pretty happy with its start-up performance and size. These were the main reasons for existence of KC Light.

This will also be determined by popularity of KC Light: If our customers want it, it will definitely be supported.

Regards
Nick
