Drum View

Drum View

Drum view is a special kind of editor for angle-valued profiles. It is displayed in the bottom left pane when an angle-valued profile is the current profile. More precisely when a  3D curve, defined in Cylindrical coordinates, is selected in the Cross-section View and its second component, which is Polar Angle selected as the current profile either in context menu or on the Profile Page of the Form.  The pane displays a cylinder (the Drum) with the profile curve on its surface.

Selection between types of coordinate system for a 3D curve can be made using radio buttons on the Current Object Page of the Form when the cross-section point is selected in the Cross-section View. Note that not all 3D curves can be transformed exactly when switching type of the coordinates. In this case internal points inside curved segments will change its geometry to approximate the original curve.

Lines and arcs of the profile curve on surface of the cylinder can be selected and modified in the same manner as in normal Profile Editor. One of differences is that in View mode only horizontal pan is enabled. Instead of vertical pan the whole drum can be rotated by rotating the blue wheel on the right hand side of the pane with the mouse (left button).

Note that the Drum is semitransparent and that points and curves on the other side of the cylinder still can be selected through the surface.

The Drum View allows displaying in a natural way rotations of a curve around axis of the current object. The software considers valid only those segments of an angle-valued profile, which have angle difference not more than 180 degrees. To create a profile with multiple revolutions around the axis additional axial knots have to be added to the base
